Last week the biggest shrine to Baccus, the God of wine, opened its doors in Marbella to the press and a few carefully selected guests.
Now in this world there are two things that will make me go weak at the knees, a life sized poster of Raquel Welch in One Million BC and the other, racks of Vega Sicillia Unico dating back to 1960.
Now sadly, Raquel, nearly kitted out in bearskin wasn’t on the guest list, clearly out hunting Mastadon that evening, but of course taking her place was Marbella’s own poster girl Angeles Muñoz, surely the next best thing. Other guests included George Graham, Ex Arsenal and Tottenham manager and Stephen Carr, ex Tottenham and now I believe, Birmingham City.
Combining a wine shop, restaurant and lounge under one roof, the business has been built on a passion for wine and food and a wish to share the joy of drinking the finest wines at the peak of their perfection.
There are over 3,000 wines in the collection, which have been selected in association with world renowned wine critics José Peñin and Robert Parker and rank over 90 out of 100 on the Parker scale. There is also an exclusive ‘wine by the glass’ dispenser system, which provides the opportunity to taste at least 32 superb wines by the glass, specially selected by their team of expert sommeliers.
At the launch the owner and visionary behind the collection Oleg Gurkov thanked everyone for their collaboration in helping him realise his dream of launching D-Wine which is built on a passion for Spanish wine, a massive personal collection and three years searching for Spain’s best wines. He thanked the Town Hall for creating a good environment for business and foreign investment and announced the launch of D-Wine’s school for sommeliers on 1st April.
