The Golf Skills Challenge Tour Marbella

Mark Twain once said Golf is a good walk spoilt, well that’s just one mans opinion, but should you be a fan of Golf but not wish to shlep the full 18 holes then The Golf Skills Challenge Tour is just for you.

This Sunday, set around the club house of Los Naranjos Golf Club, in the heart of Marbella’s Golf Valley, the Golf Skills Challenge was born, the first of many hopes Paul Bramley, instigator and Father of the event.

The Challenge consists of all the skills necessary to play a game of golf without the walking. So, competitors, around 40 of them, mainly professional, had to compete against their fellow golfers in such disciplines as short and long bunker shots , long and short chips, short and long puts, as well as drives from 50yd, 100yd, 150yd and 200yd.

Notable names from the golfing world like Peter Gusstaffson, and Carlos Rodiles were keen to state what a great idea this was and would definitely be competing in the next one even though neither were on the winners podium at the end of the day. Top scorers Adam Sagar and Anton Karlsson, both with 121 headed out to the driving range for an exiting playoff which eventually yielded  Adam Sagar as the victor. Talking of Victors, one junior playing in the challenge was Victor Jimenez, son of Andalucia’s most famous golfer, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Ryder Cup Player and one of today’s finest golfers.

As a spectator sport, this has to be one of the most interesting to watch for keen golfers, being able to see all the action without having to leave their spot on the banks surrounding the putting greens and driving ranges.

The Mayoress of Marbella, Angeles Muñoz was on hand to dish out the prizes and hand over a Cheque for 2,000€ to “The Children’s Skill Challenge in Nature”, a new charity set up by Carmen Guisasal, wife of Carlos Rodiles. This Charity has been set up to help children learn more about nature and it’s important role in the World today, and was the ideal charity for Paul Bramley who wanted to run his events alongside raising money for a good cause.

If you missed out on the inaugural Golf Skills Challenge this time then worry not as Sr Bramley has many more planned for the future
