As reported earlier this week, Gibraltar recently held the fifth Gibraltar Song Festival to a packed house, and headlining the evening was Mr Longevity himself, Kid Creole.
Now I have known the Kid, aka Augustus Darnell, since the early days of his career and I have come to the conclusion that he clearly sleeps in a bath of formaldehyde on the basis that he has been perfectly preserved since he first blasted onto the music scene in the mid eighties.
The same of course can’t be said of his “coconuts”, you know his backing trio of beauties, who are replaced every so many years, clearly unaware of Sr Creole’s fountain of youth, hidden away somewhere in the Haitian Hills.
Musically nothing has changed, Kid Creole is the consummate performer, his band tighter than a gnats chuff, banging out hit after hit, no Annie, he’s still not your daddy…
Gibraltar certainly had a treat that night and I for one will never tire of hearing Kid Creole or for that matter his latest coconuts.
