Sun Shines on St Patricks Day Celebrations in Marbella

St Patricks Day Weekend in Marbella was a far cry from last years damp event with the sun shining on possibly the hottest weekend so far this year.

A marvellous weekend was had at Marbella Marina on the 15th and 16th March to celebrate the imminent arrival of the only National Patron Saints Day of Ireland.

The marina was amok with green, white and gold, as well as hints and flavours of local Spanish culture.  Local Irish owned restaurants served up typically Spanish gastronomic delights which included albondigas or meatballs -with an Irish twist and pitufos with delicious Irish fillings such as black pudding. The people of Marbella were entertained by both Spanish Flamenco and Irish dancers from Europaelia and Aloha School Irish dancers respectively, so we were really pleased to display integration of local and Irish cultures.  St Patrick’s Festival Marbella was not just an event for the Irish as we had people from across the globe in attendance.  Close to 10,000 people visited and enjoying the spectacular over both Saturday and Sunday.  People of all ages engaged with and enjoyed the entertainment, food and drink  provided by the various local participants. Significant awareness was also raised for the plight of our main Charity – BancoSol Alimentos who provide foodstuff to people across Malaga unable to provide such for themselves and their families.

The Highlight of the weekend for many was the Aloha Irish Dancers kindly Sponsored by Spence-Clarke Accountants. And further participants and sponsors to the event were The Hogan Stand, The Claddagh Bar, Bsure Insurance, Beckkits, The Playwright, Tiger Bay, Passion Café, Tom’s Coffee, Marbella Exclusive, Costa Gaels GAA, Banco Sol, Karl Quane, Kerry Gold, Lemmon, The Port Bar and Dunnes Stores and Ice cream by Enda.

Don’t forget interests shared are interests developed so the Costa Gaels Gaelic Footbal Team, would welcome new-comers to the club at Marbella Rugby grounds Wednesdays at 7.30 and for children Sunday 11am. Get involved throughout the year to make great memories and greater plans for next year’s event, remembering.. It wasn’t just Saint Patrick’s, It was Ours!
